Mound Neighborhoods We Work In
Mound is a city of peninsulas and bays. The work we do on Three Points doesn't look like the work we do up in the Highlands. Here's what we see most in each area.
Three Points (North Peninsula)
A trio of slender peninsulas extending into the West Arm. Older lakeshore homes, narrow streets, and tight side-yard access on a lot of the lots. We bring the compact grinder here by default. Wet-soil scheduling matters, when the lake is high, the lower lots stay saturated.
Island Park
Quiet residential blocks with a close-knit, treed character. Mature canopy, single-family lots, and mostly standard suburban access. This is some of the most volume-friendly stump work in Mound.
Shirley Hills (North of Downtown)
Mid-century homes on rolling lots above Harrisons and Cooks Bays. Mature silver maples and oaks are common, often within fifteen feet of the foundation. Foundation-aware grinding is standard here.
The Highlands (above Cooks Bay)

Storm Recovery in Mound
The west end of Lake Minnetonka takes its share of straight-line wind events every summer, and Mound's mature canopy and water-adjacent exposure mean even a single bad storm can drop dozens of trees across town. We're still grinding stumps from storms going back two and three summers.
If you had a tree taken down after a storm and the removal company didn't grind the stump (most don't, it's a separate trade), we finish the job. Insurance-related work is welcome; we provide invoices structured for reimbursement.
What to Expect After We Leave
You'll have a depression where the stump was, filled with grindings 4 to 8 inches deep depending on how deep we ground. Grindings settle over two to three months as they decompose. If you're planning to plant grass or sod, wait for the settle to finish first, or request haul-away and bring in fresh topsoil. If you're planting a new tree in the same spot, wait at least six months and then dig out the remaining grindings before planting. We can advise on timing based on your specific plan.

How much does a stump grinding job cost?

Do you grind close to the foundation of the house?
Yes. We can grind close to foundations and other obstacles as long as we have enough room to get the machine into position. We typically get within 6 inches of the object.
What happens to the hole?
You'll have a depression usually 4 to 8 inches deep. For re-growing grass, you'll want to remove as much of the grindings as possible and fill the hole with fresh topsoil. Removing the grindings prevents settling over time and keeps mushrooms from growing as the mulch decays. We offer both grindings disposal and soil installation upon request.
Can you work around our septic or well?
Yes. A lot of Mound's older blocks are still on septic. We need to know where the lines and tank are before we start, so please mention at the time of getting an estimate and if you have a site plan, have it out for us.
Do you grind in winter?
Yes, when the ground is frozen solid. Frozen ground actually makes for cleaner grinding with less surface disturbance. January through mid-March is our winter window in most years. Some services may be limited in winter, like grinding stumps in rock, debris disposal, and soil installation.
