When a lakeshore tree comes out, the stump grind needs to respect the slope and the shoreline. We grind to 4 to 8 inches below grade as standard, clean grindings off the lawn so they don't wash toward the lake, and we do not run heavy equipment closer to the waterline than the job needs. Same approach in the Victorian-era blocks behind downtown, narrow side-yard access, lawn protection, leave it cleaner than we found it.

My lot slopes to the lake. Can you grind without tearing up the yard?
We make every effort to minimally impact the area surrounding the stump and the rest of the yard. We use compact equipment, lawn-protection mats on softer ground, and we plan the cleanup so grindings don't wash toward the shoreline. Lakeshore lots are routine work for us in Excelsior.
The only access to my backyard is a narrow side yard between two houses. Will your equipment fit?
Our equipment narrows down to about 36 inches wide, so most side yards, including the standard Victorian-era ones, are workable. A 36-inch opening is not an automatic yes, though, because uneven ground or a side-to-side slope at the entrance can change what is possible. Send the measurement of the opening at ground level plus photos showing any slope at the entrance, both at the ground and at the top of the gate, so we can confirm before scheduling. The machine is almost 11 feet long and needs a straight shot through the threshold, so flag any obstacles right before or after the gate too.
