Spring Park is small, well under a square mile of land, but the two largest sides of the city are lakefront. Spring Park Bay and the West Arm wrap most of town, and Black Lake sits to the south. Stump work here is rarely standard. Soil holds water, lots are tight, and a lot of the housing stock is older lakefront cottages that were converted into year-round homes over the decades.
We work Spring Park regularly. About half our calls are single stumps left behind by a takedown crew. The other half are multi-stump jobs, five or more after years of accumulated yard projects. The more stumps you have, the lower the per-stump rate.
- Serving the Lake Minnetonka area since 2016
- Volume pricing on multi-stump lots (5+)
- Compact equipment that narrows to about 36 inches for tight gate access

Why Get Rid of Your Tree Stumps?
A stump in your yard isn't just an eyesore. The longer it sits, the more it complicates the property, and the case for grinding is stronger than most people realize.
Sucker Growth and Nutrient Drain
A stump left in the ground doesn't always stay dormant. Many species send up suckers, small shoots that turn into volunteer trees if left unmanaged. These pull nutrients from the surrounding soil and can outcompete the lawn, garden plants, or any new tree you'd want to plant. Removing the stump stops the cycle at the source.
Trip Hazards and Lawn Damage
Stumps are notorious for ruining mower blades and twisting ankles. Hidden in tall grass or under fallen leaves, a stump becomes a real safety risk for kids, pets, and anyone working in the yard. As the stump rots, sinkholes can develop in the surrounding soil, sometimes years after the tree came down.
Insect and Fungal Concerns
A decaying stump is a habitat for carpenter ants, termites, and beetles. In Spring Park, that habitat can spread to nearby healthy trees, garden plants, and even structures over time. Grinding the stump below grade removes the habitat and reduces the local disease pressure on the rest of your yard.
How a Spring Park Job Runs
- 1
Estimate
Text or email a photo for a quick quote, or fill out the form with a few details about your property. Most Spring Park quotes come back same-day. We respond fast because in this market, the customer who waits two days for a callback usually hires whoever called back first.
- 2
Schedule
Single-stump Spring Park jobs are usually scheduled within a week. Multi-stump jobs may push out a few days for routing. We coordinate around access constraints, equipment sizing, and any landscaping considerations on the property.
- 3
Grind
Crew arrives with the right equipment for your lot. Compact grinder that narrows down to about 36 inches for tight access, full-size for open driveways, mid-size for jobs in between. We grind 4 to 8 inches below grade as standard, deeper on request.
- 4
Cleanup
Grindings are raked into a neat pile and we sweep the work area before we leave. If you'd rather have them spread as mulch across the yard or hauled off-site, both are available as add-ons for a flat fee.
Spring Park Neighborhoods We Work In
Spring Park is small enough that we know most of the streets, but the work changes block by block depending on whether the lot fronts the lake, sits inland on Shoreline Drive, or backs onto Black Lake.
Spring Park Bay shoreline
Older lakefront homes, many of them former summer cottages converted to year-round residences. Mature oaks and maples close to the house, and frequent stumps from trees that came down in past storms. Wet-soil scheduling matters, these lots stay saturated in spring.
West Arm Shoreline
Lakefront character on the bay side, slightly larger parcels on average. We see more multi-stump jobs here, often after homeowners get serious about a yard refresh.
Shoreline Drive corridor
The Highway 15 / Shoreline Drive spine running through town. Mixed residential and commercial. Standard suburban access on the residential blocks.
Black Lake Side (South Spring Park)
Quieter blocks backing onto Black Lake. Inland lots with mature canopy and easier access. We do a lot of standard backyard stump work here.
Lot Types We Handle Most
- Lakefront lots along Spring Park Bay and the West Arm, wet-soil scheduling, careful access
- Converted cottage properties with tight side-yard access and mature trees close to the house
- Inland Black Lake lots with standard suburban access and mature canopy
- Multi-stump backyards after extended yard projects
- Tight-access lots where compact equipment is required

Storm Recovery in Spring Park
The west end of Lake Minnetonka takes its share of straight-line wind events every summer. Spring Park's exposure to open water on three sides means wind hits hard, and a single bad storm can drop dozens of trees across this small a footprint. We're still grinding stumps from storms going back two and three summers.
If you had a tree taken down after a storm and the removal company didn't grind the stump (most don't, it's a separate trade), we finish the job. Insurance-related work is welcome; we provide invoices structured for reimbursement.
What to Expect After We Leave
You'll have a depression where the stump was, filled with grindings 4 to 8 inches deep depending on how deep we ground. Grindings settle over two to three months as they decompose. If you're planning to plant grass or sod, wait for the settle to finish first, or request haul-away and bring in fresh topsoil. If you're planting a new tree in the same spot, wait at least six months and then dig out the remaining grindings before planting. We can advise on timing based on your specific plan.

Alexander & Kayla Sagal
Wow! They came so fast and helped us get our sod project back on track. They grinded 3 stumps in no time at all and the bid came in exactly as another company that couldn't do it for 5 more days. Great service, would recommend!
Kelly Knaus
They've been a fantastic service provider for years, both at my own homes and for clients' properties. The process is incredibly easy. They show up, get the job done well, and make payment simple with easy one-click options when the work is complete. Reliable, convenient, and consistently great quality work every time.
Roxanne Anderson
We had two stumps removed by ByeBye Stumps. Communication was great, they handled getting the utilities marked and cleaned up any dirt on the driveway and street afterwards, a nice touch. I got three estimates and they were reasonably priced. I will recommend them to family and friends. Thank you Lucas and Chris.
What Spring Park Clients Ask Before They Hire
How much does a stump grinding job cost?
Every property is different, so pricing depends on factors like stump size, the number of stumps, root systems, accessibility, and location. Call us or fill out the quote form with a few details (photos help!) and we'll provide a personalized estimate based on your specific project.
Do you grind close to the foundation of the house?
Yes. We can grind close to foundations and other obstacles as long as we have enough room to get the machine into position. We typically get within 6 inches of the object.
What happens to the hole?
You'll have a depression usually 4 to 8 inches deep. For re-growing grass, you'll want to remove as much of the grindings as possible and fill the hole with fresh topsoil. Removing the grindings prevents settling over time and keeps mushrooms from growing as the mulch decays. We offer both grindings disposal and soil installation upon request.
Our lot is tight. Will the equipment fit?
Often it can. Our compact grinder narrows to about 36 inches, but whether it actually fits depends on the gate itself, since a tight angle into the opening or a slope at the threshold can be the deciding factor. Send us a photo of the gate and the path behind it and we will tell you up front whether we can get back there, no surprises on the day.
Do you grind in winter?
Yes, when the ground is frozen solid. Frozen ground actually makes for cleaner grinding with less surface disturbance. January through mid-March is our winter window in most years. Some services may be limited in winter, like grinding stumps in rock, debris disposal, and soil installation.
