New Hope's EAB program is one of the most active in the west metro. The city budgets hundreds of thousands of dollars per year toward removing public ash trees, and offers a 50/50 cost share (with a city share of up to $200) for residents who want to replace a removed boulevard ash with a different species off the city's planting list. That part is a good deal. The piece that catches homeowners off guard is the stump: when the boulevard ash comes out, the city takedown is complete, but the stump grind is usually on the homeowner.
