Minneapolis stump work isn't suburban stump work. The lots are tighter, the trees are older, and a third of the work involves a boulevard tree owned by the city. Most of our Minneapolis calls are single stumps, a homeowner had a tree taken down, the removal company didn't grind the stump (most don't), and the homeowner is left with a 14-inch reminder of a job half-finished.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board manages roughly 200,000 boulevard trees in the city. When a boulevard tree comes down due to EAB or storm damage, the city handles the takedown, but stump grinding is often the homeowner's responsibility, depending on the program. We've ground enough boulevard stumps to know where the city services line stops and the homeowner picks up.
We grind tight access lots. Our compact equipment narrows down to about 36 inches for side-yard and gate access, though a tight or uneven opening still needs a look first. We protect lawns and sprinkler heads. We don't leave a mess on the boulevard.
- Serving Minneapolis and the western Twin Cities since 2016
- Photo pricing, no deposits, paid only when the work is done
- Compact equipment that narrows to about 36 inches for tight gate access

What We Grind in Minneapolis
- Boulevard tree stumps post-EAB or post-storm city takedown
- Backyard stumps in tight-access urban lots (alley access required for most South Minneapolis homes)
- Front yard ornamentals, flowering crab, hawthorn, mountain ash that died and need to come out
- Multi-stump lots, older Northeast and Standish-Ericsson properties where 2-4 trees are coming down at once
- Construction-related stumps where a homeowner cleared a corner for an ADU or addition
EAB and the Minneapolis Park Board Boulevard Tree Program
Emerald ash borer has hit Minneapolis hard. The Park Board has been removing infested ash trees on boulevards for years now and the program continues. The city usually covers boulevard stump removal, but the program can run slow, so some homeowners hire us directly to get the stump ground sooner.
We do a lot of this work. Pricing on a single boulevard stump after city takedown is straightforward, we'll quote it from a photo. If the city left a 6-inch above-grade cut, we grind to 4 to 8 inches below grade as standard, leaving you with a fillable hole for sod or new tree planting.
If the boulevard tree is still standing and infested, talk to the Park Board first. We can't grind a tree that hasn't been removed, and the Park Board takedown sequence has its own scheduling.

Alexander & Kayla Sagal
Wow! They came so fast and helped us get our sod project back on track. They grinded 3 stumps in no time at all and the bid came in exactly as another company that couldn't do it for 5 more days. Great service, would recommend!
Kelly Knaus
They've been a fantastic service provider for years, both at my own homes and for clients' properties. The process is incredibly easy. They show up, get the job done well, and make payment simple with easy one-click options when the work is complete. Reliable, convenient, and consistently great quality work every time.
Roxanne Anderson
We had two stumps removed by ByeBye Stumps. Communication was great, they handled getting the utilities marked and cleaned up any dirt on the driveway and street afterwards, a nice touch. I got three estimates and they were reasonably priced. I will recommend them to family and friends. Thank you Lucas and Chris.
Three Questions Minneapolis Customers Ask
Do you handle boulevard tree stumps after the city takes the tree down?
Yes, this is a substantial portion of our Minneapolis work. The city usually handles boulevard stump removal, but the program can run slow, so some homeowners hire us directly to get it done. We quote and grind these regularly.
My alley is narrow. Will your equipment fit?
Our equipment narrows down to about 36 inches wide, so a tight gate or alley is usually workable. A 36-inch opening is not an automatic yes, though, because a tight approach angle, uneven ground, or a slope at the opening can all be the deciding factor. Send us a photo of the gate or alley entrance and we'll confirm before we schedule.
How fast can you get to my Minneapolis stump?
Single-stump jobs in Minneapolis typically schedule within the same week. Multi-stump or alley-access-only jobs may push out a few days depending on equipment routing.
