Hopkins Boulevard Trees and the City Forestry Program
The City of Hopkins runs an active forestry department, and they take the canopy seriously. Hopkins Forestry plants replacement trees on boulevards (Crab Apple, Hackberry, Honey Locust, Linden, Maple, Swamp White Oak, and others) and inspects for Dutch elm and EAB across both public and private property. Emerald ash borer has been confirmed in several Hopkins neighborhoods, and ash takedowns continue to roll through the city schedule.
When a boulevard tree comes out under the city's program, the stump is typically the homeowner's responsibility once the takedown is complete. We do this work weekly. Send us a photo and we'll quote the boulevard stump same day. Standard grind depth is 4 to 8 inches below grade, leaving a fillable hole for sod, a replacement tree from the city's planting list, or whatever the homeowner wants to put in.

My yard has irrigation lines running through it. Will you hit them?
Older Hopkins lots almost always have irrigation. Mark your sprinkler heads before we arrive, and we will make an educated guess about line paths, usually running in line with the row of heads. That said, irrigation lines can run anywhere and are often unmarked and unknown, so we cannot be responsible if we hit one. Our standard grind depth is 4 to 8 inches below grade, which keeps us above most main lines.
Can you get to a backyard stump inside the fence if my only access is a side gate?
Usually, but not always. The compact grinder can fit a 36-inch opening, but a tight turn into the gate or a side slope at the threshold can stop it. Send a photo of the gate and the approach to it and we'll confirm fit before scheduling rather than guess on the day.
Do you handle boulevard tree stumps after the city takes the tree down?
Yes, this is a regular part of our Hopkins work. Depending on the city's program, which can vary year to year, the stump may be the homeowner's responsibility once the takedown is complete. We quote from a photo and grind to standard depth so the spot is ready for a replacement tree.
